Mandela movie to make significant contribution to SA history
Authorities of the Nelson Mandela Museum are confident the Mandela movie: "Long Walk to Freedom", will make a significant contribution to the history and the heritage of this country.
Speaking during the screening of the film in East London in the Eastern Cape, Museum CEO Bayanda Nyengule says the film will assist them in their outreach programmes to the surrounding villages of Qunu and to the tourists who visit their museum.
The film set has been donated to the Nelson Mandela Museum as a gift to Madiba.
Nyengule says: “We have donated all the sets that have been utilised in the compilation of that film and we are going to have an exhibition in Qunu. We are still going to construct a building to house all those film sets, that will be a marvel to have that kind of exhibition.”
The film is based on the eight months Madiba spent travelling Africa prior to his arrest in 1962. During this time, Ethiopian emperor Haile Selassie gave Mandela a Makarov pistol which he later buried at the ANC safe house, Lilliesleaf Farm, in Rivonia.
The movie is due for general release on November 28, 2013.
